📰 D-Day Festival Normandy 2025: A historic event not to be missed
From May 31 to June 15, 2025, Normandy is preparing to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, with a major event: the D-Day Festival Normandy 2025. This event will bring together thousands of people to relive the D-Day story, with commemorative ceremonies, historical re-enactments, military parades, concerts, exhibitions and much more. These festivities will take place on the emblematic D-Day beaches, as well as across several towns and cities in Normandy.
Celebrations in and around Bayeux
Bayeux, the first town to be liberated during the D-Day landings, will play a central role in the festivities. On June 6, 2025, an official ceremony will be held in tribute to the veterans and soldiers who fell during Operation Overlord, followed by a military parade. In the days that follow, Bayeux will become the center of a series of celebrations: historic re-enactments of the Second World War, parades of period vehicles, paratrooper demonstrations and air shows. Visitors can discover the poignant stories of Allied soldiers through themed exhibitions and guided tours throughout the city. Military music concerts, retro balls and cultural events will also be organized to immerse spectators in the atmosphere of the 1940s.
On June 9, the town of Bayeux will host a Liberation Parade, one of the highlights of the festival. Over 300 historic military vehicles, including jeeps, tanks and trucks from the era, will parade through the streets, accompanied by period music and dance. The parade will be a moving and spectacular opportunity to relive the liberation of the city and pay tribute to those who fought for freedom. A fireworks display will also mark the end of the celebrations.
A complete immersion in D-Day history
The D-Day Festival Normandy 2025 in Bayeux goes beyond ceremonies and parades. It offers a real immersion in the history of the Second World War, with historical re-enactments at several sites, including Arromanches and Courseulles-sur-Mer. Visitors can experience life-size battle scenes, observe reconstructions of military encampments, and discover exhibits of military objects and equipment used during the D-Day landings. These events provide an opportunity to learn more about D-Day, and to understand the scale of the sacrifices made to liberate France.
Bayeux will also be a center for discussions and conferences with historians, testimonials from veterans, and screenings of documentary films on the D-Day landings. The festivities will be punctuated by rides in period vehicles and retro dinners, recreating the post-war atmosphere to allow visitors to immerse themselves even further in the historical context.
